IN PARADISE: PARADISE ISLAND

"Welcome
to Paradise" flashed the sign as we crossed the
bridge from Nassau to Paradise Island. Our limousine
driver, Charlie the Great, assured us that we were
truly entering Paradise. I use "the Great"
when talking about Charlie because that's how he intro-duced
himself to us when he picked us up at the airport.
"The Great" may have referred to his mouth.
He made Thomas Hen-derson (from Dallas Cowboys days)
seem like a mute.
Charlie
talked almost nonstop during the forty-five-minute
trip from the airport to Paradise Island. We arrived
in the dark, so he couldn't show us the sights along
the way. He did tell us all about good spots to eat,
although he never ate out, he said, because it was
too expensive. He also described interesting sights
to see, but he didn't tell us about Joyce.
Joyce,
the tour's representative, met us at the front door
of the Flagler Inn as we arrived. Joyce was a beautiful
Bahamian woman who looked like Farrah Fawcett with
golden-brown hair. The next morning Joyce welcomed
us with a rum-punch party and answered all the questions
tourists typically have. She cau-tioned us about muggings,
but I never saw any or felt in any dan-ger. I told
my wife I must have been too intimidating; she suggested
I appeared too small a catch (if she's right, maybe
that's what makes me more invisible at the tables).

introduced myself
to Joyce after the orientation-for strictly business
reasons, of course! I mentioned that I was the creator
of several websites and wanted to know if there was
any possibility of getting them in any of the local
Bahamian websitestores. That after noon, she directed
me to the largest website distributor in the Bahamas.
My websites were in the stores before the week was
out. Thank you, Joyce!
